Every five years, the Wagyu Olympics unite Japanese prefectures to compete for the prestigious title of the best beef. During the 2022 event held in Kagoshima Prefecture, Kagoshima Wagyu distinguished itself by securing victories in six out of nine categories and earning the Prime Minister’s Award for Breed Improvement. This award focuses on attributes such as size, proportion, and appearance. Moreover, Kagoshima Wagyu maintained its dominant performance by winning the group award in the 2017 and 2022 competitions, a recognition given to the overall top performer based on average scores across all categories.

Originating from the historic region of Satsuma, now known as Kagoshima, Kagoshima Wagyu (Japanese Black cattle) are the culmination of extensive breeding enhancements to the native cattle species. As the largest producer of Wagyu, next to Hokkaido and Miyazaki, Kagoshima is renowned for its traditional cultivation methods, exceptional breeding conditions, and stress-free upbringing of cattle. These cattle benefit from meticulous farming techniques, careful handling, and a specialized diet suited to the southern climate.
