“Shogun Beef” from Japan’s Oldest Wagyu Brand
Omi × Okaki Farm
Omi (近江) is the historical name for present-day Shiga Prefecture in Japan. Renowned as one of Japan’s top three premium Wagyu brands—alongside Kobe and Matsusaka—Omi beef boasts a legacy spanning over 400 years, making it the country’s oldest beef brand. More than 100 farms produce Omi beef, maintaining its reputation for excellence. During Japan’s Edo period, when shoguns ruled from the 12th to 19th century, the highest-ranking samurai from each prefecture traveled to Edo, the Shogun’s residence, bearing gifts that represented their regions. Omi beef was among these prized offerings, earning the esteemed title of "Shogun Beef."
Our Omi Wagyu comes exclusively from Okaki Farm, established in 1839. This historic farm preserves Edo-period traditions while managing a herd of 500 Omi cattle. Now led by the fourth generation, Okaki Ranch has grown into a fully integrated operation, overseeing every stage of Wagyu production—from cattle raising and meat processing to distribution, retail, and restaurant management. This dedication to craftsmanship reflects the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen, or continuous improvement.
What sets Okaki Farm apart is its unique approach: they not only produce Wagyu but also operate their own restaurants, ensuring an unparalleled farm-to-table experience.
